Who said What

Jhye Richardson | Player of the Match: Obviously nice to start the season well. Traditionally we haven’t started well and then come back with a few wins, but great to start well in front of a nice crowd. There’s not always one particular player who does well in this team, we all share it around and that’s what we pride ourselves on. Makes a real difference, we love our fans and it’s awesome to put on a show for them. [speaking about his shoulder dislocation after a wicket celebration in the Sheffield Shield game] I was pretty happy with the ball I bowled, I was pretty pumped up, caught in an awkward angle, the shoulders don’t like that. Came back and bowled 30 overs though, it was a slip-up but yeah everything is fine. [on what’s inside the KFC Player of the Match award box] A couple of vouchers, a shirt and a towel.

Match Review

Perth Scorchers Stroll to 6-Wicket Victory, Melbourne Stars Try Their Best to Keep It Interesting

So, Perth Scorchers walked into the game like they had a lunch appointment, while Melbourne Stars looked like they were still figuring out where the cafeteria was.

Melbourne Stars Innings: The Stars got off to a shaky start, scoring just 13 runs in the first Powerplay with a side order of 2 wickets. It felt like a cricket-themed escape room, and they weren’t exactly solving the puzzles quickly. Then came the highlight of their innings: a dramatic review on over 3.2! The umpire called it “out,” but Melbourne challenged it like a kid throwing a tantrum over a cookie. Spoiler: the umpire won that one, and SB Harper was sent packing. By the time they hit drinks, they were 59/3, and we were all wondering if they’d remember how to score some runs. Powerplay 2 wasn’t much better, with just 14 runs and 2 more wickets falling. By the end of the innings, they finished at 146/9. Not a total you’d take home to your parents, honestly.

Perth Scorchers Innings: Perth Scorchers must have thought, “Well, this chase is going to be fun.” They casually strolled to 50/3 in the Powerplay, like they were just running errands. No biggie. Drinks time came, and they were 73/3, with Connor Connolly (41) playing like someone who knew exactly what to do with a bat. The 4th-wicket partnership looked like they were actually playing a different game, bringing up 50 runs in just 39 balls. Connolly hit 50 off 42 balls with 3 sixes, because why not? By the time they reached 100 in the 13th over, we were all waiting for the dramatic conclusion. Perth wrapped it up with 150/4 in 17.1 overs—because when you’re chasing 146, who needs 20 overs?

In the end, Perth won by 6 wickets and made it look easier than finding an open coffee shop on a Monday morning. Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, are probably still trying to figure out what went wrong—though, let’s be honest, we all know!
